Historian. Educator. Filmmaker. Curator.
I am Assistant Professor of Film Production at the University of North Alabama. In addition to teaching classes and mentoring students, I also program the Lindsey Film Festival, the longest-running film festival in Alabama.
I study documentary film and American independent cinema. I am especially interested in how documentary and indie filmmakers intersect with the commercial media industries. My first book, How Documentaries Went Mainstream: A History, 1960 - 2022, explores this question across many decades.
I am also an independent filmmaker. I write and direct emotionally resonant dramas. I also produce and art-direct films for my close collaborators.
